Easy to Build Computer Desks

A computer desk is different than other desks as it must be built to store your PC, monitor, keyboard and printer. Some people need additional space for a scanner and office supplies. Computer desks come in different shapes and sizes. They are made from particle board, metal, even glass. A computer desk is a necessary piece of office equipment for those running a business from home. If you are in the need for a new computer desk, there are many available to choose from, but if you are up for a challenge, why not try making your own?

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 Kitchen cabinets
  • 5-foot countertop
  • Tube liquid nails
  • Keyboard tray slider
  1. Step 1

Obtain a kitchen cabinet with a top drawer and a large front door. Adjustable shelves will be located inside the door. You can find this type of cabinet at any home store such as Home Depot or Lowe's.

  2. Step 2

Look for another kitchen cabinet, the same height and preferably the same color, that has only a vertical row of drawers.

  3. Step 3

Locate a prefabricated 5-foot countertop, also found at any home store. Make sure the countertop rests evenly on top of both cabinets with room in the center for a chair and leg space.

  4. Step 4

Assemble the countertop on top of the cabinets at home. Use a tube of liquid nails adhesive to adhere the counter to the cabinets.

  5. Step 5

Shop for a keyboard tray slider at an office store. Mount the slider under the countertop, following the directions from the manufacturer.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your cabinets are too tall once you are sitting down, cut off the required length from the bottom of both with a saw.
  • The cabinets must be the same height or your table will lean to one side.
