How to choose and use a dating service

Despite a growing population and electronic tools that allow us to reach out to people over long distances, it is getting ever harder to find that one special partner. Dating agencies have been around in one form or another for hundreds of years, but today there are many of them in easy to access, organized, business formats. The question is: how to choose and use the right dating service?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide if you want to deal with an in-person agency like a local matching service or a database matching service, or attend a speed-dating event. The first two choices are usually somewhat expensive because you are dealing with a live person making choices in accordance to the questions filled out on forms. The last is best for those who are gifted with good physical appeal and verbal skills. These resources are more personal, but they are also more time-consuming.

  2. Step 2

Internet sites are many and varied. Most free sites can be great for experimentation. You are sometimes better off to pay a subscription, however, if you are seeking people who are more serious about dating.

  3. Step 3

Choose a service that does not automatically deduct your fee from your credit card so you can decide when and for how long you want to use your subscription. You may also prefer to avoid sites that charge extra for blocking those you'd prefer not to chat with. And make sure you use a service with a secure E-commerce system for payment.

  4. Step 4

Anonymity is a double edged sword. It allows you to meet and evaluate potential partners safely. But it also allows less scrupulous people to misrepresent themselves. So, always be careful in a dating situation whether it is over the internet, through a live dating service, or even if it is someone you meet at a party or bar.

  5. Step 5

Services can be subject specific such as religious, athletic, interracial, single parents etc. If you want to narrow down your choices by larger fields, this might influence the dating service you choose.

  6. Step 6

No dating service can make guarantees. I know several successful matches that have led to happy weddings for people in their twenties, thirties and even sixties. There have also been some pretty scary stories of strange characters and predators who can frequent dating services.

  7. Step 7

There are many choices in dating services. Do a little research to find out which kind of service is best for you. Below are some Additional References to help you choose and use a dating service. These are just some possibilities and I do not necessarily consider any one as being better than another.
