Instructions

Mice can enter through any hole that is approximately 1/4 of an inch or more. To get rid of mice you will need to eliminate any holes.Inspect the exterior of your house for holes of this size. Pay particular attention to where pipes and utilities enter the house, around vents and around the foundation. Mice are excellent climbers so inspect the entire house, not just at ground level.

    • 2

Patch any holes that you find. For small holes you can use a patching material like caulk. If the hole is large you can secure steel wool or copper mesh in the opening, they cannot chew through it.

    • 3

Insure that doors, windows and screens fit tightly. If they don't fit tightly repair them. Replace weather stripping if necessary.

    • 4

Your next step to get rid of mice is to eliminate any food sources. Secure all foodstuffs in your kitchen in rodent proof containers such as metal, glass or plastic. They will chew through bags and boxes. Do not allow any food to be lying out in your house.

Now that you have blocked their entryway into your home and eliminated their food source it is time to address the ones that are already there. You need to insure that any mice that might be inside your home are removed. How you choose to get rid of mice is up to you. There are traps or poisons for do it yourself applications or you can call an exterminator to get rid of mice.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you feel that your mouse infestation is severe call a professional exterminator.

Thanks. This problem is not as bad anymore since doing alot of patching. Where I live used to be a field. We got a cat but it has taken her awhile to learn she has a job. But not as bad as they used to be.

I once had a problem with mice in our mountain cabin..cute little buggers but boy could they build nests with just about anything. Ingenious, but of course, they had to go. Thanks for sharing.

Great tips. They may be cute, but I still don't like mice, except for snake food.
