How to View the Point Cloud in Photosynth

This guide will show you how to view the point cloud (the set of points that make the 3D model) in Photosynth. Sometimes the point cloud can be an impressive thing to show off

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photosynth
  1. Step 1
    Sphinx
    Sphinx

    First open the Photosynth that you wish to view. For example, the Sphinx in Egypt taken by National Geographic, http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=7baa4f1a-893d-4e15-b6e6-526399e2752a

  2. Step 2
    Sphinx Point Cloud
    Sphinx Point Cloud

    To view just the point cloud (without any pictures blocking the view) press and hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard. The view should now look something like the picture to the left

  3. Step 3

    Keep the CTRL key pressed and you can now click through the Photosynth just as you would before but it will only show the point cloud

  4. Step 4

    To go back to the picture view, simply let go of the CTRL key

  5. Step 5

    If a donut shaped icon appears in the middle of the Photosynth, you can click on it to rotate around that specific point

Tips & Warnings
  • Viewing a Photosynths requires installing some software. This is a one time process and should not take too long
