With all the different digital camera memory cards out there and places to buy them, you may be wondering if you are getting the best deal. Here's how to get the best deal on a memory card.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

The first important thing to know is that not all digital cameras will work well with all brands of memory cards even if it is the same format. Why this is I'm not sure but I've had this experience with my camera already. It is a good idea to find out if other brands of cards will work before you buy and if you are not sure, be sure you can return the open package if it doesn't. My advice, bring the camera with you to the store if you are unsure and have the sales person open it for you so there is no issue returning. You may have to actually buy it first but at least you'll have a witness that works there that it just didn't work for you.

  2. Step 2

Compare online prices before purchasing. Very often online retailers will offer lower prices online than in their store. If you're very lucky, they'll offer free shipping as well.

  3. Step 3

Ebay and Craigslist are great places to buy memory cards if you know exactly what you are looking for. Returning these cards may be difficult so keep that in mind before purchasing. If you buy a used card, it is very possible that the life of that card will not be very long.

  4. Step 4

Check your local newspaper and online coupon websites for deals. Some retailers will actually match their competitors prices. Bring the circular with you if you find a good deal somewhere else.

  5. Step 5

If you are purchasing several items in the store, do not forget to haggle a little bit. Many of these salespeople are getting commissions and your sale directly affects their paycheck. Salespeople are desperate these days to make a sale so there is a good chance that you will get a deal. Perhaps even something for free.

  6. Step 6

If you have good credit, some stores will offer you a discount if you apply for their credit card. If you are purchasing a lot of stuff, then this discount may pay off. Be sure to pay your balance in full if you decide to go this route.
