How to Create a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word gives you the ability the insert a hyperlink right in your document. A hyperlink is a clickable link or word that will take you to some place either within the document, somewhere on your hard drive or somewhere on the Internet. This is especially helpful if you write a document and use information from a website. You can create a hyperlink that the reader can click on to go to the website where you retrieved your information.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Word
  1. Step 1

    Open up Microsoft Word and load an existing document. If you do not have an existing document just copy and paste something for this example so you can follow along.

    Double click on any word in your document. You will see the word get highlighted.

    Once your word is highlighted, right mouse click on the word to bring up the pop up menu.

    On the pop up menu click on "Hyperlink" to bring up the hyperlink window.

    The "Insert Hyperlink" window will appear. For our example we are going to make this word a clickable link to go to the Google website. Start by clicking "Existing File or Web Page" button on the left side of the window, then type in the http://www.Google.com in the textbox labeled "address" and then click on the "Ok" button. I circled all of these in red in the picture.

    Notice how the word has changed color and is underlined to signify that you can click on the word and you will be taken to the Google website.
