How to Increase Time Efficiency in a Home Office
Working from home can be more difficult than working in an office with other people because you're responsible for your own time. If you're the only person supervising yourself, you have to be accountable to yourself for how you use your time. It is much easier to let yourself off the hook and waste time. To make working from home a profitable venture, invest time and energy in exploring and testing new ways to increase the efficiency with which you spend your time.

1
Bundle like tasks together to reduce start-up time. If you have to do a task like sending out several mailings each week, consider bundling that together and doing them all at the same time only once per week. This is especially helpful for saving time if there is any set-up required to complete the task. Gather all your supplies and set up your work space for this task only once, and you'll have more time left over from not having to transition to and from the tasks several times.

2
Surf the Internet only during designated break times. Surfing the Internet can be a significant waste of time because there is an endless possibility of places to visit and no built-in timer to stop. It can go on indefinitely which is bad news for your time efficiency. Establish a few breaks in your work time. Stick to them.

Hire an in-home babysitter. If you find yourself being interrupted by your children during your work day, consider hiring someone to come in and care for them while you're home. This can be cheaper and safer than a daycare. It's also less time-consuming because you don't have to travel back and forth in traffic to transport your child.

4
Work when you're well rested and energized. Don't work when you're not at your peak time. Create a circadian rhythm. Work in long chunks of time when you feel like working.

5
Work less. If you can get your job done in a short amount of time, stop working when you're done. By all means, do not keep moving around to feel busy and look like you're working when you're not really focused. Working eight hours a day is arbitrary and does not necessarily constitute a full work day. By freeing up more time to rest, relax and do household chores, you will be more able to recuperate for the next working day by decreasing your stress.
