Make Hot Apple Cider

Nothing is better then having a warm drink when it is -20 degrees outside and this is one of the quickest ways I have found to warm up. Hot apple cider and a little bit of spices can bring the perfect end to a rushed, cold day. Enjoy.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 6 cups Apple Cider
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Whole Cloves
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 3 sticks of Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon rum extract
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  1. Step 1

First collect all ingredients. Wash your hands and set up your work area. Combine the apple cider, whole cloves, ground nutmeg, sticks of cinnamon, rum extract(if you are going non-alcoholic) and orange juice in a sauce pan over medium-high heat.

  2. Step 2

Bring the cider mixture to a rolling boil and then reduce the heat to medium. Simmer uncovered for about ten minutes. Once finished very carefully, strain the cider mixture to remove the whole cloves and cinnamon sticks. Pour into large coffee mugs. Serve to your guests immediately or let it cool a little first.

  3. Step 3

This recipe can also be placed into a small cool slow cooker. Pour all of the ingredients in together on the low setting. Allow the flavors to develop over a few hours. If the level of the liquids gets low just add more cider and orange juice. You are just concentrating the spices.

Tips & Warnings
  • This recipe is great for getting the house to smell great before guests arrive and is also able to be served. I love when things multi-task.
  • Cider can get very hot.

on 1/6/2009 I love making it for guests because it really does make the house smell homey and warm. I also make apple cider for camping trips. It's great for those who can't have hot chocolate!
