Things You'll Need:
- Sauce Pan, Medium
- Flour 3-4 Tblspoons
- Measuring Spoons
- Mixing Bowl
- Milk 1 1/2-2 cups
- Sugar 1/4th cup
- Butter, Half stick
- Wire Whisk
- Serving Bowl and Spoon

Step 1
Whisking The Flour into Melted ButterChoose a medium sauce pan for cooking. At least one that holds a quart of liquid. Measure about 3 tablespoons of flour into a small measuring cup. Set aside flour and place butter into the sauce pan. At least half a stick of margarine or butter depending on amount of gravy needed. A whole stick will result in a lot of gravy.

Step 2
Continuing to Add FlourDo not let the butter scorch. When it is hot enough to just bubble some stir in the flour gradually with the wire whisk. Beat gently and keep flame low so it doesn't cook to guickly. After the butter and flour have incorporated completely to a smooth consistancy, cook until the flour has sufficently cooked to a point it will not taste like raw flour, about 3-4 minutes. It is ok to take some on a spoon and taste to the tongue.

Step 3
Adding MilkGradually add milk, keep stirring with the whisk so it doesn't lump. You will need at least 1-1/2 - 2 cups of milk to make enough gravy for 4-5 people. Cook the milk, flour, butter mixture over the low heat until it is thickened and is bubbbly. Add more milk if it appears to be too thick on initial mixing. If too thick you can always add a little more milk, but if it is too thin more flour will not work well. When the mixture looks like perfect milk gravy, add the sugar, about 1/3rd cup. This will melt quickly into the hot gravy. Cook just long enough more for the sugar to dissolve. Check flavor before adding all the sugar, if you don't want too sweet a gravy. Pour into serving bowl, and place a serving ladel with the bowl. Add over fresh cooked pancakes for smiling faces.
