Having a terrific complexion and enviable skin tone is not just a matter of genetic fortune. There are things you can do to greatly improve the overall condition of your skin that will take very little time and effort on your part. Understanding the basics of good skin is vital to your health and appearance so read on for tips on keeping your skin in the best possible shape.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water Multivitamins with B complex Nivea cream Vaseline Baby oil
  1. Step 1

Drink lots of water every day and night. If you experience the sensation of thirst, you are already dehydrated. You can drink herbal tea or green tea, have seltzer water with ice or lemon juice in your tap or spring water. Just get more than eight glasses of water per day. Some things don't count like alcohol and coffee since they take moisture out of the body.

  2. Step 2

A daily regimen of gentle soap, preferably a beauty soap as opposed to a lye-based deodorant product is a necessity. However, do not wash your face more than twice per day. Wash gently at night with a small amount of soap and wash more vigorously when you shower with anti-bacterial body soap or wash. The generic brand products are fine.

  3. Step 3

Immediately after washing, without tugging or pulling the skin, blot the skin dry and apply a face cream like Oil of Olay or Nivea to the entire face including the areas around the eyes, nose and mouth. If you notice peeling or cracking, apply a light base of vasoline to the cracked area during the day and a heavier application at night until the cracking subsides.

  4. Step 4

Sleep is almost as important to your complexion as water. Get at least 7 to 8 hours of rest per night. If you do anything for yourself, make it a few extra hours of sleep per week. For example, instead of watching TV on Sunday night, go to bed at 8:00 p.m. and sleep until 6:00 p.m. if you can. You will feel better and your skin will be refreshed by the extra rest.

  5. Step 5

Go easy on the makeup. Most women do not need to apply liquid or powdered makeup on their faces. Looking natural is the best way to go and will keep your complexion from breaking out.

  6. Step 6

Eat a healthy and balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and variety. Better still, add a multivitamin with B complex to your daily routine. This will help to balance out any nutrient deficiencies you may have from a diet that is not as rich in natural nutrients as it needs to be for optimal skin condition.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have severe acne or scaling of the skin, see a dermatologist for an evaluation. You may need medication to clear up a chronic condition.
  • Don't spend a fortune on skin care products. Use common sense and this article to make your skin the best it can be.
