How to Write a War Veteran

Write a War Veteran

You may feel like there isn't anything you can personally do about war. It seems like from the beginning of time there has been a war of some sort going on. Whether you agree or disagree with any particular war one thing remains constant. Soldiers come home severely wounded, if not physically then mentally with things like posttraumatic stress disorder. They will never go back to life the same way they did before. They will never truly know if what they did mattered or if it was appreciated. No matter if the war is considered good or bad the soldier went out and did the best job possible putting their life at risk for what they hoped would be a better life ahead. Many soldiers are forgotten when they get home. What's horrible is the way we treat them when they come home. We put American Soldiers in decrepit VA hospitals and sometimes use experimental drugs on them because they are the property of the US Government.

There is always hope for change. You can get together in communities and do what you can. You can donate funds to organizations I've listen below. You can fight for bills that would put money into care of war veterans.

The problem is, everyone is busy, everyone has problems of their own, everyone is tight on money. If that is you, if you need a charity of your own because you're in such bad shape, then you can still write a letter. Explain how thankful you are to them personally even if you've never met them, that someone who has never met me personally would potentially give their life to defend me.

You can send it to a hospital near you. If you don't know the address to a local one and don't want to look it up then you can write to this one.
      A Recovering American Soldier,
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center,
      6900 Georgia Avenue,NW
      Washington,D.C. 20307-5001

Make it a habit to write monthly, there are many soldiers coming home every day. Make sure to add a couple to your Valentines or Christmas greeting card list. I'm sure you would love to get a letter out of the clear blue telling you how great and loved you are.
