Things You'll Need:
- Resume
- Classic, stylish outfit
- Pulled-together hair and make-up
-
Step 1
Once you find out you have an interview, the first step is to find out more about the company. Is there a dress code? If so, find out how strict it is. Do most employees dress in very classic business wear, or is the style trendy? Once you know how most employees dress, you can get the perfect outfit.
-
Step 2
On any interview, it's best to dress slightly more conservative than the average employee. Generally you will be younger than most of the employees, so you want to emphasize that you are mature and dedicated. Therefore, make sure you only wear one trendy piece. Accessories can also be trendy.
-
Step 3
Invest in a pretty, classic suit. A charcoal gray is a great alternative to black, and looks much less harsh. Also, many places will accept a short-sleeve suit in the summer. You won't always wear the suit as one piece, but they mix great with other pieces for a more work-appropriate look.
-
Step 4
For the interview, wear the entire suit. If you wear a simple, classic shirt, pair it with a shoe that stands out. Avoid open toe shoes, though, as many offices do not allow them. Alternatively, if you wear a classic black pump, put a bright or patterned shirt on under the blazer. You want to be remembered. Accessorize with either a few thick bangles or a bold necklace, but keep the rest simple.
-
Step 5
The most important thing you can do is have a great resume. Most college advisors can help you with your resume, or find a professional. Buy a simple, elegant resume folder. This will look put together, and implies that you are organized and neat.
-
Step 6
Once you're at the interview, make sure to ask questions. Take an active interest in the company to show that you want to intern there, instead of looking like you just want an internship anywhere.
