Long after Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States, there will be innumerable opportunities to collect inauguration souvenirs and merchandise. Some of the collectables are from the official Presidential Inauguration Committee (PIC), while others come from commercial sources. Here's how to get the best inaugural souvenirs.

**Head to the official inaugural website**

Obama's inaugural website is PIC2009.org. Click on "Inaugural Store" to find a wide variety of official souvenir merchandise -- "Exclusive Inauguration Gear", as the website calls it -- from jackets to medallions to mugs. The website will be up and running even after the inauguration.

    **Check the Washington Post Online**

DC's hometown newspaper, the Washington Post, has a page devoted to inauguration souvenirs. The Resources section includes a direct link. And again, the link will remain active for a long while after the inauguration.

    **Buy an Extra Newspaper**

If you have newspaper delivery, you'll receive a copy of their inauguration day headlined edition. You might want to get an extra one to save for posterity. In fact, you might want to get one of the big national papers, like the New York Times, as a keepsake. Visit the website of your favorite newspaper and search for Commemorative Inauguration Issue. Papers like the Washington Post and the New York Times will be selling these even though the inauguration is passed.

  4. Step 4

    **Search the Net**

Just Google [ inauguration souvenirs ] and you'll find hundreds of vendors with all sorts of tchatchkas, from Obama cufflinks and T-shirts to Obama golf balls. The choices are endless.

Tips & Warnings
  • Know someone who attended any inaugual events? Ask them if they have an extra keepsake for you, even if it's just an Obama Inauguration cocktail napkin.
