With bacterial threats from manicuring salons and the high cost of regular manicures, ladies are turning to store bought glue on finger nails. Unfortunately, if you follow the directions on the box, you can have a very hard time removing them, and when you do, your nails can be stripped and damaged. Here is a guide to avoid the unfortunate results so often met with using store bought glue on nails.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Box of flexible glue on nails. Short or long, any style.
  • clear nail polish
  • Nail clippers
  1. Step 1

Start with clean fingernails. Use two coats of clear nail polish. The nail polish helps to prevent stripping your own nails when removing. Wait until it dries. Match ten of the finger nails with your own.

  2. Step 2

Start applying the nails on your dominant hand. Your non-dominant hand will need to be fake-nail-free for good results. Drop only two drops of glue that comes in the package on the fake nail. Ignore the instructions to drop glue on your nail itself. You don't need that much glue and when you use that much, it can be very difficult to remove.

  3. Step 3

After applying the two drops of glue on one nail, slide the nail in place, pressing into the cuticle so that the new nail appears to be growing from your cuticle. Hold in place for about 10 seconds. Make sure there is no glue on the fingers that are holding the nail, otherwise, they will stick to the nail and pull it off when you try to let go.

  4. Step 4

Apply all nails this way. This will give you a great looking set of nails for the night or beyond. Save the box of extra nails in case one or two fall off.

  5. Step 5

When you are ready to remove don' t use acetate remover as it says on the box. Use a nail clipper and clip the nails down. Some may fall off while you are doing this and some may not. For those that don't, when you are done clipping them, squeeze and rock the fake nail. Squeeze the nail from each side, pinching until they move a little.

  6. Step 6

Some will have fallen off with the squeezing and some from the clipping. If there are a few left, then resort to the acetate of nail polish remover to dissolve them, but I haven't had to use the acetate since I have been using this technique. Have fun!

Tips & Warnings
  • Before replacing nails that may have fallen off prematurely, make sure you use two coats of clear polish before re-applying.
  • use as little glue as possible to avoid difficult removal and smudging of the nail.
