How to Make Italian-style Breadsticks

These Italian-style breadsticks are easy and super quick.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil or 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano or 1/2teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (11 ounces) refrigerated breadstick dough
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  1. Step 1

    prep time is 20 minutes and bake time is 15 minutes.
    preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Spray two cooking sheets with cooking spray.

  2. Step 2

    combine mozzarella, basil, garlic powder, oregano and pepper in a small bowl; mix well and set aside.

  3. Step 3

    unroll the dough; separate the breadsticks. cut each strip in half crosswise.

  4. Step 4

    on a lightly floured surface, with floured fingertips, twist the two halves together.

  5. Step 5

    beat egg with water. lightly brush the tops of breadsticks with the egg mixture.

  6. Step 6

    sprinkle seasoning over breadsticks, turning to coat evenly on both sides.

  7. Step 7

    place breadsticks on prepared baking sheets, 1 inch apart. press down edges slightly to prevent twists from unraveling.

  8. Step 8

    bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes. serve warm.

  9. Step 9

    * for a spicy flavor, add crushed red pepper flakes to the seasoning mix.
    * Dried herbs add great flavor to most any savory bread.

Tips & Warnings
  • to help keep breadsticks warm when they are at the dinner table, place a piece of foil under the napkin in the bread basket.
