How to Find a Mom Job

If you're like many women who have to juggle the daily duties of being a mom and trying to find a job that fits - try these ideas.

  • It's hard to find a job that will give you school holidays off, allow for 2 weeks of family sick days, and allow you to work only between the hours of 9am - 3pm so you can get the kids off the bus! In my searching for this perfect job - as I call it - the "mom job" I've found some great tips!

  • Teaching Assistant. While this doesn't pay as much as a corporate job, it can fit into a mom's hectic life. Teaching Assistants typically work school hours and don't have to come in early and leave late as Teachers do. You assist the teacher in classroom activities and help with copies, grading papers, etc. In order to be certified in NY State you need a High School Diploma, pass a skills test, get fingerprinted and take 2 workshops on Child Abuse and Violence Prevention. Total approximate cost for certification: $150 See resources link for the NY State website

  • Part time employment anywhere. There are many companies out there that are looking for women like us! The skills that we use daily like organizing, multitasking, coordinating, scheduling, etc., are very important skills that companies are looking for. These companies recognize that moms can be a great asset to them. See the resources section for a per diem employment website.

  • Work for yourself. Freelance writing that brings in a residual income like writing on eHow. Start a home based business if you have something that you're good at. Parties: Tupperware, romance, candles, etc.
