Have a fun Easter Egg Hunt

Kids love a good Easter egg hunt. Here's a little twist on the traditional easter egg hunt, that I like to call the Easter egg Scavenger hunt. It works best with children who are a little older, but if you help your young ones, they will love it too! Follow these easy tips to have a great Easter egg hunt that the whole family will enjoy!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic Easter Eggs
  • Easter Basket
  • Paper and Pen for writing Clues
  • Small Candy or Toys
  1. Step 1
    Begin by writing clues
    Begin by writing clues

Start by writing your clues on small pieces of paper. Decide how many clues you will have for each child, considering their age and how much time you will have for your Easter Egg Hunt. As you write the clues, don't put them in the eggs until you are ready to put them where they belong. Each clue will send them to a different place in or outside your home, where they will find another egg with another clue.

  2. Step 2
Make a List of where Each Egg will be Hidden
Make a List of where Each Egg will be Hidden

Before you start hiding your eggs with the clues, make a list for yourself of each child and where each egg is hidden IN ORDER! This is very important, because if they can't find an egg, you might not remember where you put it. You can refer back to this on the day of the Easter egg hunt.

  3. Step 3
Hide the Eggs One at a Time
Hide the Eggs One at a Time

Once all of the clues are done, you'll need to start placing them in eggs and putting them where they belong. The best way to do this is to hide the eggs for one child at a time. Get a basket and put your eggs and some small candy and toys into the basket. Take the basket and the clues with you. The first clue will stay with you. Read the first clue and the go to the location where you are supposed to place the egg. Then and only then, put the clue into the egg and hide it. You can also add a small prize or piece of candy to each egg for more fun. Make sure you read the clue or have your list with you so you know where you are supposed to hide the next egg!

  4. Step 4
Hide the Basket at the End of the Hunt

Put the Easter Basket or large prize in the spot where your child will be led by the last clue.

  5. Step 5
Send your Children out one at a time
Send your Children out one at a time

On Easter morning, give the first child to do the scavenger hunt their first clue and send them on their way. It's fun to do this easter egg scavenger hunt one child at a time. This way older children can help younger kids find their eggs and everyone can watch as each child tries to figure out their clues.

Tips & Warnings
  • Help smaller children as they find their eggs if needed.
  • Make sure all children find the right eggs or your hunt will get all mixed up.
  • Don't hide eggs for more than one child in the same location. If they take the wrong egg, your Easter Egg Hunt will get all mixed up.
  • Have a master list of the clues and locations of eggs for each child in case you need to help find an egg.

on 1/13/2009 Leave the last egg empty to remind children of the empty tomb. That is the BEST gift of all. Give them the basket after you explane why the egg is empty.

on 1/4/2009 This sounds like a cute idea. It would be great for those times when Easter gets rained out and the kids can't collect eggs outside.
