Step 1
Stay young at heart by laughing - Take every opportunity to laugh, even if it is at yourself. Everyone loves a good, hearty belly laugh. Rent a comedy or occupy some down time by reading a funny book (Erma Bombeck comes to mind, or, the Sweet Potato Queen books - now, THEY'RE funny!).
-
Step 2
Surround yourself with like minded people - friends can make all the difference in the world to your own outlook. Naysayers can not only bring themselves down but their negative attitudes can affect others too. Go out to lunch, a movie, or just shopping with a good friend.
-
Step 3
Dress appropriately - Even gorgeous older women can't necessarily pull off the fashions of the young. Wearing clothes that are too young for you only age you. Pick styles that complement your attitude and body style. There's no need to dress dowdy but short short skirts over 50 are not necessarily a pretty thing.
-
Step 4
Continue to learn - take a short class in something you've always wondered about. Look up online courses or check out a local university. There's always interesting courses out there.
-
Step 5
Take time out to pamper yourself - you're older now, you deserve to spend a little money on the finer things in life. Go get a manicure/pedicure every other week. Get that massage in while you're at it. And, who doesn't love a facial?

on 4/20/2009 Great tips that I need to practice more often. Laughter is a great stress reliever and probably why it helps us stay younger and live longer. I have to remind myself "don't sweat the small stuff". Thanks for the great article!
