How to Wax a Compound Bow String

The bow is a simple thing to care for, even if it is a compound bow. One of the parts of the bow that needs regular attention is the bowstring. You need to wax it regularly with wax made specifically for bow strings. Even if you wait too long and begin to see a few loose strands, you can still doctor that expensive string back to health.

Things You'll Need

  • Bowstring wax
  • Chamois cloth or
  • Soft leather

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect your bowstring to see if it is clean. It is best not to wax the string if there is any dirt, leaves or other foreign matter on the string.

    • 2

Rub the wax on the string with firm, up-and-down strokes. Make sure the entire string is waxed.

    • 3

Work the wax into the string with a piece of chamois or soft leather until you can no longer see the wax on the string.

    • 4

Seal the container of wax so it stays fresh for the next waxing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some experts say you should wax your string monthly, when you inspect other parts of the bow.
