Step 1
The first choice you'll have to make in this decision is what are you looking for in a gaming console. Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 offer a wide variety of games for all ages. Both have an expanse of online capability's including online gaming, playing demos of new releases, renting movies, and even purchasing those old classics you cant seem to find anywhere and playing them on your console. So in short they both offer basically the same things with minor differences

Step 2
Second is the games, Xbox came out sometime before the PS3 so naturally they have more games and they have an arsenal of exclusive titles(exe halo, gears of war). Playstation also has alot of good titles most are more adult oriented. Both systems games cost the same anywhere from 20 to 80 dollars

Step 3
Third is the platforms, blue ray vs. hd dvd. Ill start by saying blue ray is phnomenal. Playstation really scored big by incorporating this new technology into there console. Xbox 360 has the dvd platform with a hd dvd player as an add on for an extra 200$. A dvd holds 4.7 gigs of data where as a blue ray disk holds 25 gigs on the single layer. All that extra space makes for a bigger more detailed game. Oh yeah try finding an hd dvd in walmart

Step 4
Next you'll want to bank on the reliability of a system. I can say my Xbox360 died after a year. Microsoft replaced it no questions asked, but i was without it for about two months. Since i bought my Playstation 3 its been a year with no problems. Also my Xbox sounds like a vacuum cleaner when its running. So if you want to hear your game buy the PS3
