Canker sores are very painful. You may go for a few months without one and then they strike. You can get one under your tongue, inside your cheek, or around the base of your gums. It can make it extremely difficult to eat food. Here are some tips to help them disappear.

Things You'll Need

  • Patience
  • A few tips from this article

Eat less sugar. The yeast causing the canker sore will continue to eat where there is sugar left in the mouth. Eating less of it will help you get closer to the end of the canker sore.

Take acidophilus tablets from a drug store or eat sugar free yogurt. Acidophilus will eat away at the yeast that is causing the canker sore.

Gargle with warm water and salt. This will relieve your symptoms. You will have to do this more than once.

Drink lots of grape juice. The white grape doesn't work as well as the purple grape juice. It helps to coat the area where the canker sore is and helps it begin healing.

Chew sugar free gum. The chewing action stimulates saliva production that will help heal your canker sore.

Tips & Warnings

  • Contact your dentist if the canker sore is very large. The dentist can give you a prescription for a mouth rinse that will help heal the canker sore.
  • Canker sores that do not seem to heal after two weeks should be looked at by a physician.
