If you enjoy singing, consider joining the Sweet Adelines. They sing barbershop type harmonies to entertain hundreds of people each year. Here's how to get started with this.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find the nearest Sweet Adelines group. Click the link below for their website. Search by state (in the U.S.) or country.

  2. Step 2

You need to audition for the local group. You have to be able to carry a tune. They determine what section you will sing in.

  3. Step 3

As a part of the Sweet Adelines chorus, you attend rehersals and perform for audiences. Here's what the website says about the experience, "Members learn vocal production, music, choreography, stage production, costuming, makeup and much more in the exciting entertainment field."

  4. Step 4

If there isn't a chapter near you, you can start one. The website gives information for that. See the link below.

  5. Step 5

I found it a lot of fun (and work). The performances are quite rewarding. Attending the rehersals regularly takes time and commitment.

Tips & Warnings
  • You will be one of almost 30,000 members belonging to chapters across the 50 states, and in other countries around the globe.

on 9/25/2009 Put in 'ladies barbershop quartet' on YouTube and you'll hear average to sublime; but they're all having a great time! I've been a Sweet Adeline since my 20's and yes, a lot of work, a lot of commitment, but so much reward, and so many great, life-long friends because of it.

on 1/17/2009 Great way to enjoy yourself and others. I only sang out on the Kansas prairies.

on 1/14/2009 I always enjoyed singing in the church choir and in high school chorus. Sweet Adelines sounds like fun.
