Would you like to pray for others online? Starting a prayer list is easier than you think!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • E-mail account (preferably web-based with unlimited or a very large account space)
  • An account with Yahoo Groups or some other mailing list provider
  • A web page or blog is helpful
  1. Step 1

Set up an e-mail account, preferably one that will just be for prayer requests. Some people that you contact will end up adding your e-mail to their forwarding lists, which can cause your e-mail inbox to fill up. Gmail and Yahoo are both good options.

  2. Step 2

Now, set up a mailing list for your prayer requests. This is better than just adding people to your e-mail account's address book, which can cause spam complaints. No one wants to have their list shut down over accusations of sending spam. Consider composing an invite e-mail with a link to the sign-up page that patiently explains how to sign up. Some of your potential list members may be very new to computers, so this is helpful.

  3. Step 3

Send your friends an invite to your new prayer list. Explain that they must sign themselves up, but that you can help them with questions that they have. Also tell them that their prayer requests can be sent to you regardless of whether they're list members or not.

  4. Step 4

Consider setting up a simple webpage or even a blog to get the word out. An e-mail link that will enable people to send prayer requests to you or a contact form can be added easily. A blog is helpful because people can use the comments feature to send prayer requests.

  5. Step 5

Be sure to tell people at your church and others you come into contact with that you have a prayer list. Even if they're not online, they'll appreciate knowing that a group of people will pray for their needs.

Tips & Warnings
  • Free online classifieds can be a good way to spread the word about your list, just be sure to follow their rules
  • It might not hurt to have your list set up to approve new members. Some unscrupulous people join prayer lists to harvest e-mail addresses for spam or other inappropriate purposes. A spammer or scammer is less likely to join a list where they have to provide info about themselves before signing up.
