Things You'll Need:
- Money to burn
- An insatiable desire for things you really can't afford and don't need
-
Step 1
Spend impulsively. The key here is make sure you don't take any time to think through a purchase decision. If you see something and desire it, get it! It really doesn't matter what the "it" might be - consumer electronics, automobiles, boats, clothing, food or real estate. Also, if you don't have the cash at the moment your desire overtakes you, just use one of your many credit cards to buy it. It's so easy!
-
Step 2
Close your savings account. Why have an open account that you won't need? Get rid of it and save your bank the trouble of having to send you a monthly statement. Plus, having one less account makes it easier for you to spend from your checking account without the need to transfer funds.
-
Step 3
Dine out frequently. This is really a great way to make sure that your weekly paycheck is depleted quickly - especially for families. If you still have money left over, consider purchasing alcoholic beverages to go along with your pricey meals. Since restaurants often charge you the equivalent of a 6 pack for a single bottle of beer, they can really help you to diminish your cash in a very short time.
-
Step 4
Purchase all the extra features on your household communication and entertainment services. Whether you have cable or satellite TV services, purchase the viewing packages that you will rarely watch. Next, make sure you have a home phone AND a cellular phone just in case you need to use them both simultaneously. Also, subscribe to the unlimited data and texting plans on your cellular phone and make sure you buy a bunch of trendy ringtones.
-
Step 5
Keep your mortgage interest rate high. Your bank has been good to you, so why not be good to them? Maintain that high interest rate as your way of saying "thank you". It's like giving them a Christmas gift all year long. They'll love you and you'll feel good. Win win!
-
Step 6
Shop aimlessly. Go to the grocery store hungry without a list or meal plan. Buy what looks good and then buy more than you need (especially perishables). Also, buy name brand products instead of the store brands. You'll burn through your cash more quickly and your cart won't be so full of stuff to lug back home. If you have trouble grasping this step - just remember, "Spend More, Get Less!"
-
Step 7
Consume more electricity. Make it your personal goal to see how many kilowatts hours you can use each month. Think of it like a game. Install high wattage incandescent bulbs and tell your kids to keep the lights on even when they aren't in the room. Run ceiling fans and other non-essential appliances while you're not home. After all this, If you still can't meet your high energy consumption goals, consider installing cheap windows and removing your insulation. There's really no limit to the fun you can have with this one!

on 8/9/2009 I would be broke in a day. I love to spend already because it is so easy and the dollar means almost nothing anymore. I agree with you the government is spending what they don't have. It makes us want to spend just so they won't get it, but I guess I will hold back. I would get into to much trouble. This is surely a different article, like a reverse of what we are doing. 5* and rec.
