Training your puppy to potty where you want him to is important. Puppies that are younger than 12 weeks cannot control their bladders and bowels anymore than a newborn baby can. However, they are easily trained with lots of patience on both of your parts. Keeping a schedule is crtical to house training a puppy.

Keep your puppy in the same small room until he is trained. A tiled bathroom is ideal for cleaning up accidents. Every time you have something new for him to do - eat, play, travel, etc., take him to potty first. Make sure you take him to the same place every time whether on paper in your house or to a certain area of your yard. Use the collar and leash to take him outside. (Always take them out 20-30 minutes after they eat or drink.)

He will instinctively sniff around. Say his name then your chosen key word such as "potty." If he does not, give him a few more minutes then repeat your same words. Take the puppy to his special potty place approximately every two hours until they are trained.

If he does not appear to have to potty say "inside," or "house." When he does potty, give him tons of praise for pottying. Pet him or give him a special treat and talk to him. Tell him how great he did.

Tips & Warnings
Be patient with your puppy. Pottying is a learning experience for him.
As much as you want to play with him, make potty training a priority. This can be more easily done by putting him in a crate when you are not playing with him 3-4 times a day for 15 approx. minutes each session. Always take him to potty before he does anything.
