This play is initially like a slant, but a running back receives instead of the flanker.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Footballs
  • Footballs
  1. Step 1

Set the offense in a split-back formation. Place seven players on the line. Position from the quarterback's left: split end, a space of 5 yards, tackle, guard, center, guard, tackle, tight end. Two running backs stand ready a yard behind the quarterback, one slightly to either side. Finally, a flanker is set 5 yards to the right of the tight end and 1 yard off the line of scrimmage.

  2. Step 2

    Launch the play.

  3. Step 3

Send the tackles, guards and center blocking straight on, keeping the defensive line engaged and repelled.

  4. Step 4

Have both running backs step forward to either side of the quarterback and set to block.

  5. Step 5

Send the split end either straight out or inside at 45 degrees. His job is to draw fire from the left corner.

  6. Step 6

Have the flanker run straight downfield.

  7. Step 7

Send the tight end crossing the line of scrimmage and cutting to the outside.

  8. Step 8

Instruct the quarterback to open to the right, looking out toward the flanker and tight end.

  9. Step 9

Instruct the left running back to fake a block, rest a count, then release left.

  10. Step 10

Have the quarterback step left and fire toward the left running back, who receives, runs for a touchdown, then takes off his helmet to show the fans how handsome he is.

Tips & Warnings
  • Follow these steps assuming your line faces a basic 5-2 defense (five players on the line of scrimmage, two linebackers behind, a corner on either end, and two safeties in back). Adjust the blocking slightly to counter varying defenses.
  • If the split end doesn't draw the left corner away, the running back will have some unwanted company over for a dinner of grass and mud.
  • Football is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
