Things You'll Need:
- 1 pair of large knitting needles
- 1 ball or skeen of yarn
- a few hours of free time
-
Step 1
Knitting slipknotThe first step in knitting your own scarf is casting on. Get one needle and hold it in your left hand, and make a slip knot as the image indicates.
-
Step 2
Casting onThe next step in casting on is to take the yarn and spread it over your index finger and thumb of your right hand. Now pull with the needle, the thread closest to your thumb. Pull the thread as the image indicates to make a loop over the needle.
-
Step 3
casting on knitsNext, do many more loops on your needle until you reach the desired length, your needle should now look something like this image:
-
Step 4
Next take your casted on needle in your right hand, hold the empty needle in your left hand. Push the empty needle through the first loop behind the casted needle, this should form an X as the image indicates.
-
Step 5
Now take the loose yarn and wrap it around the empty needle as the image indicates
-
Step 6
Pull the thread wraped around the uncasted needle through the loop, and slide off the casted loop you just went through.
-
Step 7
Now complete the entire row this way, then do many many more rows until you have the length you desire.
-
Step 8
Casting offCasting off: As you get to the last row of your scarf, you'll need to cast off. You can do this by doing a row as you normally would but on the second cast pull the first cast over the second one on the empty needle. Follow this step for all the other stitches and you'll have a nice, new, warm scarf!
