Tequila is a liquor unlike any other. Tequila is made in Mexico, where it is extremely prevalent and affordable. Tequila comes in a number of varities. It ranges from the very cheap, under $5 for a fifth (750 ml) to the very expensive, sometimes hundreds of dollars for a fifth. Tequila is distilled from the fermented sap of the mescal plant, or the blue agave plant. Tequila comes in clear or gold, and is generally sold at 80 proof.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tequila (try 1800, it is reasonably priced and still quite good)
  • Fresh lemons, cut into slices, or quarters
  • Salt
  • Liquor shaker
  • Ice
  • Shot glasses
  • Good attitude
  • Nowhere to go
  1. Step 1

Fill your liquor shaker with ice. Pour in tequila. Use 1 ounce of tequila for each shot.

  2. Step 2

Shake briefly and gently. If you shake the ice and liquor too hard, you'll have what's called "bruised" ice. Basically, the ice gets a little busted up and ends up in your liquor, then in your shot glass. Even small pieces of ice in a shot can make it harder to drink.

  3. Step 3

Pour your shots. Fill the glasses, or pour up to the white line. Each shot should be 1 ounce.

  4. Step 4

Lick the back of your hand. Pour a dash of salt on the spot you licked.

  5. Step 5

Immediately after licking the salt, do the shot of tequila.

  6. Step 6

Immediately after doing the shot, put the lemon in your mouth and suck on it.

  7. Step 7

    Repeat as desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy good tequila.
  • Novice drinkers may want what's called a "chaser". Something good to drink after doing the shot.
  • Don't drink too much.
  • Space your shots out. Shots of liquor, and especially tequila, have a way of sneaking up on you.
  • Don't drink and drive.
