How to prep walls for painting and paper hanging?

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • hammer, scraper, smoothing brush, sharp cutting tool
  1. Step 1

Prep walls by correcting imperfections. Patch all holes as needed before applying any coatings. Mix all materials as required by the manufacturer and the proper temperture of atleast 70 degrees on the exterior as well as the interior.

  2. Step 2

Drive nail heads atleast 1/16 of an inch in walls for filling with spackle or joint compounding and sanding to a smooth finishing for application of all coatings. Fill cracks with compound where needed and or where there are large cracks use tape to cover them. In some cases dry wall is necessary for larger areas.

  3. Step 3

Prime and sand all new work before applying any finish coat. Primer must be completely cured before applying any second or finish coat or coats. Oil coats may take up to forty eight hours or more, depending on weather or temperture conditions. Top coats must match under coats for the proper curing and adhesion of all materials.

Tips & Warnings
  • Clean all tools before storing them away for future use as well as securing all containers for spillage and drying in the container.
  • Use ventilation when manufacturing of materials specifies them and wear protection for fumes, vapors and hearing as needed.
