Make a Hot Chocolate Protein Smoothie - Recipe

Having a smoothie as a way of adding nutrition to your diet is nothing new. I’m a big fan of whipping one up in the morning for breakfast or any time I want a quick, nutritious treat. But the downside of smoothies is that they are usually cold, and sometimes I’m in the mood for something hot. Well, necessity is the mother of invention. Here’s a recipe for a delicious, nutritious, HOT smoothie! Try it for breakfast, for a mid-afternoon energizing snack, or for an evening treat.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8 ounces milk (any type)
  • 2-3 tablespoons of Hershey's chocolate syrup
  • Chocolate flavored protein powder or vanilla soy protein powder (try Trader Joe's for a good selection)
  • Blender (works well in the Magic Bullet, but any blender will do)
  1. Step 1

Pour 8 oz. of cold milk in a microwave-safe cup.

  2. Step 2

Heat the milk in the microwave on high for 90 seconds or until steaming hot, but not boiling. You don't want to burn your mouth.

  3. Step 3

Pour the hot milk in a blender. I like to use the Magic Bullet for its small design and easy clean-up. Add 2-3 tbs. Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup and 1 scoop of protein powder. When I use vanilla protein powder, I usually use more chocolate syrup.

  4. Step 4

Blend the ingredients on high for 10 seconds or until completely blended and foamy. Serve in your favorite mug and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use chocolate protein powder for a rich taste or vanilla for a smooth taste.
  • You can use a 1/2 scoop of protein powder if a full scoop makes it too thick.
  • Soy protein, if taken daily, helps ward off osteoporosis.
  • I like the Magic Bullet blender because it's so small and convenient that I use it more than any other blender I've had. Just don't blend for more than 30 continuous seconds at a time, and it will last for years.
  • If you are using the Magic Bullet, the manufacturer states that the tall cups with the handles are not microwave safe. I have not had any trouble using them in the microwave, but it's always best to follow the manufacturer's directions.
