Organize your files now with a New Folder

Folders on a computer perform exactly as folders in a filing cabinet. Folders can be created within folders to organize files to your satisfaction. Folders can be named to depict the contents. These folders can be created on your computers main screen or in the My Documents and My Pictures folders. Folders provide the ability to sort and save all of your documents and pictures in an easy to find location. Create several different folders to store your writing, pictures, spreadsheets, and anything else you would like to have organized.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep frequently accessed files and folders handy, by placing them on your Desktop.
  • Periodically check the folders on your desktop. If you are not accessing them often, move them to the My Document folder.
  • Files are easily moved. Left-click on the file, hold the button down as you "drag" it to the desired folder. When the file is hovering on the folder, the folder should change colors. Let go of the mouse button. Your file is now in your folder!
  • Double-check that your file is in the folder by double-clicking on the folder.
  • Do not save files to your C:/drive! Operating Systems were designed with the My Documents and My Pictures folders to save personal files!
  • Do not create all of your folders on your desktop. Doing so will cause your computer to take longer to start up.
