find the best Vacations in Arkansas

After living in Arkansas all my life I have found these to be the best of the best vacations in Arkansas. The Ozarks are truly beautiful and the people genuine. Whether visiting Oaklawn Race Track or Mountain View you are sure to be happy with your choice of destination. Vacations in Arkansas are very family oriented and offer a wide variety of fun things to do. From the lakes of the north to digging for diamonds in the south, the Mississippi River in the east to the beautiful mountains of the west Arkansas is waiting for you.

Things You'll Need:

  • Time to stop and visit, the people are wonderful
  1. Step 1

The top of my list: Mount Magazine State Park. The park has a first class lodge and is located on the highest point in the central section of the United States. The view cannot be described. The lodge is first class and new. There are also cabins for rent with a view that is beyond description. Truly a stop you will be glad you did.

  2. Step 2

Petit Jean State Park. Beautiful over looks and a first class automobile museum.

  3. Step 3

Trout fishing on the White River. Trophy Rainbow and Brown Trout. Some world class trout are caught here. A wonderful experience for the family. There are many outfitters who are listed on the internet. Many people do not know the quality of trout fishing on the White River. If you love trout fishing this is a must destination.

  4. Step 4

Downtown Mountain View on Friday and Saturday night. The locals gather to play their version of Ozark Folk Music. The experience is wonderful and very safe. There is nothing like this that I have seen anywhere anytime. Very interesting and family oriented. Free---Bring the family.

  5. Step 5

Buffalo National River - Beautiful beyond compare. The limestone bluffs seen to reach from the river to the sky. One of the must beautiful spots in the United States. A novice can canoe the most popular route during the summer.

  6. Step 6

Wiederkehr Wine Cellars - Tour the winery. They even have a sample room. My favorite is the restaurant. It is located in an old wine cellar and the employees wear authentic Bavarian outfits. Good food --- this is an understatement!!! There are also several other wineries close.

  7. Step 7

Blanchard Springs Caverns - Administered by the National Forest Service this may be the best kept secret in the United States. If you have seen any other cave I don't think they will compare to Blanchard Springs. It is simply breath taking. If you are in North Central Arkansas do not miss the chance to tour this living cave.

  8. Step 8

Oaklawn Park Race Track - Thoroughbred Racing at it's finest. Located in beautiful Hot Springs, Arkansas. Be sure to get the best corned beef sandwich in the world while at the track. A hint for placing the horses. Don't buy just one tip sheet, buy two. Also buy the Arkansas Democrat for it's selections. Now you have three experts traveling with you. Compare and then bet with the experts. This is good for Conservative betters.

  9. Step 9

Lake Norfork near Mountain Home, Arkansas. Rent a boat and enjoy the blue water. Also some of the most senic lake views in the state.

  10. Step 10

Duck hunting on the Grand Prairie. The area around DeWitt and Stuttgart sports the best duck hunting in the world. See the link below for the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce to find a duck guide.
