Curb Food Cravings by Drinking Tea

Food cravings can be hard to deal with. You know how it is--you're sitting there and suddenly you want chocolate or something else that isn't all that great for you. Yes, I know--chocolate can be good for you in moderation--but it's the moderation part that can be difficult to adhere to.

In my years of trying to manage food cravings, I have found that drinking tea keeps them under control--especially if my cravings are for sweets. Here are some tea tips.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rooibos tea
  • White tea
  • Green tea
  • Oolong tea
  • Fruity teas
  • Cinnamon
  1. Step 1

Rooibos tea is my go-to when I am craving sweets. It blends well particularly with citrus, vanilla and caramel. I try to keep all three rooibos blends on hand. Caramel rooibos is extremely hard to find in the United States, but worth it once you do get a hold of it. Teevana is the only company I've found so far (see link in Resources below).

  2. Step 2

White, oolong and green teas basically fall into the same category. Sometimes, food cravings can come about from boredom or simply needing something to do while at the computer or watching TV. Tea is a great way to keep your mind busy and off food. Even better--all these can help your body burn fat.

  3. Step 3

Fruity teas can help take the place of other sweet cravings. Have a hankering for gummy candies, hard candy or any other kind of candy or cookie that doesn't involve chocolate? Blends that include a heavy amount of fruit are a good choice. Add a little stevia and it will be even better than the candy!

  4. Step 4

Cinnamon is a wonderful additive to any tea and is something I use to help prevent me from eating another piece of pie or any other comforting baked dessert. This works best when added to green, white or oolong tea. Cinnamon can also help stabilize blood sugar, so it is a wise choice.

Tips & Warnings
  • To lose weight, follow a healthy diet and exercise.
  • As always, you should see a doctor before starting a weight loss program.

on 1/22/2009 You've really explained the teas well. I have heard quite a bit about the health - and weight loss benefits - of tea, but not knowing what to choose tea-wise usually leaves me opting to just eat the candy instead! Thanks for your advice - will give it a try!

on 1/22/2009 Writer7 - yes, it IS very soothing!

AmyLouis - I am trying to cut out sweets too. I just had a relapse and ate some chocolate. I should have had some tea instead! But, I hadn't had a relapse for almost a week so the tea must be working.

Thanks again for stopping in and leaving your comments!
