You know those annoying "User Account Control" prompts? But these prompts can get really annoying if you're constantly running programs. Using these simple steps, you can stop it from showing up ever again.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a minute of your time
  1. Step 1

Turn on your computer on and log into Windows Vista.

  2. Step 2

Once your computer has finished loading Windows Vista, click the "Start" button with the Windows logo on the taskbar.

  3. Step 3

When the start menu loads, look for the Control Panel. Once you've found it, click on it.

  4. Step 4

Once the Control Panel window has completed loading, look for User Account and click on it.

  5. Step 5

A new window should come up. Within that window, select "Turn User Account on or off". Windows Vista will ask for you permission to continue. This is the last time you'll see this. Select continue.

  6. Step 6

Uncheck the checkbox for User Account Control and then click on ok. Windows Vista won't ever ask for you permission to run a program again.

Tips & Warnings
  • Turning this off will allow any unwanted programs to run in the background. Make sure that you have an up to date anti-virus program.

on 1/20/2009 You are so right! All those notices really are annoying... the first thing I do when I get a new computer or have to reformat is reset all my preferences and protocols which of course can take days or even weeks!

on 1/15/2009 Thanks for this tip. That feature on VISTA is annoying. My browser also has that feature so I usually have to click two or three times to download something.
