Things You'll Need:
- screwdriver
- hot water
- pliers ( if unscrewing rod from under the sink)
- plumber's grease
-
Step 1
First you will want to remove the stopper from the sink. This may be difficult to accomplish if there is a lot of blockage. If so, simply use a screwdriver to help loosen the stopper.
-
Step 2
Next you will turn the faucet to the hot water setting and let it run down the drain for a few minutes.
-
Step 3
If the stopper does not remove easily, you will have to go under the sink to remove it. First you will unscrew the large nut. Make sure to keep track of all pieces.
-
Step 4
Once you clean out the drain, reattached the pieces. Apply plumber's grease to the popup mechanism. This will help in the future if you drain blocks up again.
-
Step 5
Flush the drain with hot water again for a few minutes.
-
Step 6
Be sure to repeat every week or two weeks to prevent blockage and odor.

on 1/2/2009 Thanks good tip. I was tired of just pouring baking soda in the drains to eliminate the odor, cleaning it seems cheaper and last linger. thanks
