Develop a grip that works best for you and will help you to sink more putts. There is no right or wrong way to grip (hold) the putter. Everyone is different.

Look at pictures of the different grips of the pro golfers who "currently" are having consistent success in sinking more putts. Just to name a few: Tiger Woods, Aaron Baddeley, Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh (who uses both long and short putters)

Try some of their grips and/or develop a grip of your own to help you sink more putts. After trying several different grips including your own, decide which one will help you sink more putts.

Use the grip that allows you to feel most comfortable while making a smooth putting stroke. Practice with your new putter or one that you already have.

Practice on a regular basis to help you learn to sink more putts.

I have never golfed before, these are good tips for newbies!
