Fresh cut rosemary is most often used in Italian recipes. People who enjoy cooking with rosemary find that rosemary sprigs dry out quickly if they are not cared for properly. Once a cut sprig of rosemary dries, the intense and fresh flavor of the herb changes and diminishes. So once you bring home a package of fresh cut rosemary or cut a sprig off your own rosemary bush, you must make sure they stay fresh.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper towel
  • Plastic bag
  • Mug filled halfway with water
  1. Step 1

Purchase your rosemary fresh if you are not growing it yourself. You cannot revive rosemary that has already started drying out. Be sure to look at the expiration date before buying the bag of rosemary.

  2. Step 2

Bring home your fresh rosemary immediately and begin prepping it for storage by rinsing it with water. Do not drain any of the water from the sprigs.

  3. Step 3

Place the wet sprigs on top of a couple of paper towels. Roll the rosemary sprigs in the paper towels like a burrito. Store them in a sealed plastic bag in the vegetable drawer.

  4. Step 4

Alternatively, cut the ends of your cut rosemary sprig and store them in a mug filled halfway with cool water. Place it in the fridge and the rosemary will stay fresh for over two weeks.

  5. Step 5

    Rinse your rosemary before consuming.

Tips & Warnings
  • Every day, check the sprigs of rosemary wrapped in paper towels. Make sure the sprigs are moist. If they are dried out, run the paper towel quickly under water then store back in the plastic bag and place back in the fridge.
