Make a Fast and Easy Beer Bread

Now that the holidays are coming to an end, your refrigerator may be stocked with assorted beers from your year-end entertaining. What should you do with it all? If the idea of drinking it all is the last thing you want to do right now, why not save it and make beer bread? It's fast, simple and very flexible. Read on to learn how to make this easy and quick bread favorite.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 cups of self-rising flour
  • Sugar (about 2 to 3 tablespoons)
  • Salt (up to a teaspoon)
  • One bottle of beer, any variety
  • A standard size bread pan
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  1. Step 1

Get your oven ready. Set it to bake and preheat it to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius.

  2. Step 2

Grease your bread pan with your non-stick cooking spray or the cooking oil of your choice.

  3. Step 3

Add the dry ingredients into a bowl and mix together. Next, add the bottle of beer.

  4. Step 4

Stir ingredient together by hand or with a spoon until they are well incorporated to the point that you have a decent dough ball.

  5. Step 5

Add the dough to the greased pan and spread out the dough so that it is evenly distributed in the pan.

  6. Step 6

Put the pan with the dough into the fully pre-heated oven and let it baked for 50 to 60 minutes. Check it at 50 minutes to see if the top is browning nicely. You may also want to insert a toothpick in the center of the loaf to see that it comes away free of dough residue. If not, leave it in for a while longer.

  7. Step 7

Once done, remove bread from the pan and let it cool.

  8. Step 8

Enjoy your simple, yet tasty loaf of bread! Serve with butter, olive oil or your own favorite spread.

Tips & Warnings
  • This bread is incredibly versatile despite its simplicty. Different types of beers will produce different flavors of bread. Light beers will produce a mild, light loaf while porters, stouts and dark lagers will produce a darker, more flavorful loaf of bread.
  • Be creative with your bread! Try adding different ingredients to enhance the flavor and texture. Some ideas may include: cheese, fresh herbs, caraway seeds, sunflower seeds, green or black olives, fruit beers and more!
  • A good bread like this deserves a good beer to go with it. Don't use it all for making bread.
  • Though you may not know it, beer does go bad over time. Use it in a timely fashion.
  • Baking time may need to be adjusted for altitude.
