Make Texas Sweet Tea

Southerners love their sweet tea. This recipe for sweet tea is a bit different, but is a crowd favorite. It uses a mixture of green tea and traditional iced tea. The mix of tea types provides additional heath benefits over traditional iced tea bags only. This recipe can be scaled up or down as needed.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 quart iced tea maker
  • 2 standard sized green tea bags
  • 1 family sized iced tea bag
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 2 mint leaves (optional)
  • lemon slices (optional)
  1. Step 1

Prepare your tea pot with water as usual - I use an iced tea maker by Mr Coffee. Use 2 green tea bags and 1 family sized iced tea bag (I like Luzianne or Lipton). If you would like a touch of mint, simply add a few mint leaves in with the tea bags.

  2. Step 2

Make the tea as usual. Do not leave the pot for too long because you will need to add 3/4 cup of sugar to the pot when it just finishes brewing. This is a crucial step - the tea MUST be hot when adding the sugar. You can add more or less sugar to your taste. Sir the tea until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  3. Step 3

The tea is now ready for refrigeration. You can also drink it while hot if you like. You can add lemon or lemon juice to your tea if you like. I would not suggest pouring hot tea over ice because the ice will melt and dilute the tea. I would also not suggest drinking the last 1/8" of tea because it often contains tea sediments.

on 1/1/2009 Sounds like some good sweet tea to me (my mom always used a whole cup of sugar but I think 3/4 would surely be enough!) and I AM from TX :-)
