Step 1
Don't forget, When you go to upgrade your os, you may need to upgrade some of your hardware.
-
Step 2
The most critical step you should take before you start upgrading your computer is to backup all important data.
If you plan to upgrade to windows vista, you should check your hardware to see if it is compatible for vista, and of course, you’ll need to have a dvd rom, cause windows vista doesn’t come on a cd. -
Step 3
You need to make sure you have the right amount of memory to run windows vista, because 512mb just wont do anymore. 1 GB is the minimum for windows vista, to run it good, you should think about installing at least 2 GB of memory to run efficient.
Don’t forget to get the updated drivers for your computer to run on windows vista.
You’ll need to have a good graphics card, Make sure the card is vista compatible.
If you are still running on ide cables, you should think about switching to sata cable. By switching to sata, you have increased your speed and performance. Don’t fret if all you old hardware is still in ide, you can buy an adapter cheap.
If you’re using a 1.1 usb, you should upgrade it as well to a 2.0, there also cheap too. You can buy one for less than $20. -
Step 4
If you want to upgrade you old computer that is running windows xp, but you don’t know if your computer will support vista, then you can download windows vista adviser free, this will tell you if you are ready and it will let you know what version of windows vista your computer can hold.
