Do you have a pet that ought to be in pictures? Literally? Well, pets can appear on TV, in movies and in print--they just need to know the “right people.” After all, there is work out there for dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, birds--you name it. Here are some ways to get your pet’s paw in the door.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure your pet is not people or animal aggressive, well behaved and knows basic commands.

  2. Step 2

Get your pet looking his or her best and take some pictures. The agencies will want pictures. They may ask for the pictures first and have you follow up with video demonstrating your pet's personality and "acting" ability.

  3. Step 3

Search online for agencies that handle animal actors. Some reputable ones are: Hollywood Paws, Animal Actors International and Le PAWS (for dogs). See links in Resources below.

  4. Step 4

Follow instructions on the agency’s website regarding how to contact them, how to submit and how to register your pet if necessary. They will likely want a brief bio on your pet along with photos. If anything is unclear, call them on the phone to clarify. Hollywood Paws offers a brochure on “How to Make Your Pet a Star,” as well as workshops and training.

  5. Step 5

If you don’t hear back after a few weeks, follow up to make sure they received your materials (without being a pushy stage mother or father).

Tips & Warnings
  • Find out what types of animals are in demand, for example, specific dog breeds.
  • It always helps if your pet is unique looking to edge out the competition.
  • Carefully consider if this is something that would be right for both you and your pet. Keep in mind that it will likely require patience and commitment.

on 1/3/2009 The ones listed are all reputable and work with productions that are monitored by animal welfare organizations, as well as union (SAG) productions. Another reputable one is The Animal Agency (animalagency.com), which is based in New Mexico. Hope this helps.
