Step 1
Video Game AddictIt all starts innocently enough, the Internet weaves it’s way into their heads and they become captivated. They start searching for more things to keep them glued to the screen and then it happens - video games. Now some of you might have husbands or boyfriends that have an addiction to console games, but my husbands vice is PC games.
I often tease him that he has a mistress and it’s the computer! Hmm, I wonder how many people make that stick in divorce court? I digress… The first rule to surviving is to just let them play, resign yourself to seeing him already on the computer first thing in the morning, and getting a quick peck on the cheek as he re-fills his coffee cup. This will not change. -
Step 2
Happy Video Game CoupleThink about how lucky you are that you know where your husband is at all times. He could be out drinking and partying it up with his buddies or even worse. I know this doesn't help when he is ignoring you, but really, you are lucky.
-
Step 3
Man on Gaming HeadphonesWhile they are on the computer you may hear strange conversations, mine uses a microphone to communicate with other players. Ignore him when you hear him say, “I just spent a X amount on a new vehicle”, as much as you want to say “You did what?” he’s not talking to you. Learn to ignore him.
-
Step 4
Wolrd Of Warcraft ElfDon’t ever compare yourself to a sexy female character in the game. There is no way on this planet that you will ever achieve a bust line or gravity defying figure like the sultry elf in World of Warcraft that is following your husbands character.
-
Step 5
Woo Hoo!Basically learn to live with it. I have tried and tried and there is no getting over this addiction, dressing like an elf didn’t work, so nothing will ;) Be happy he is home with you, well kind of and think of ways to lure him away every once in a while to remind him what a real human being is ;)

on 3/16/2009 I'm the guilty party in our household, mostly console rpgs, making my husband a video game widower. He's learned to live with it, and sometimes i do come up for air, only to switch to a new phenomenon, like writing how-to articles. Oh well. Thanks for the fun read. 5*

on 2/17/2009 Great article. I'm not an internet video gamer, but I am the one in our house who's addicted to PS2 and the Wii. My husband puts up with it pretty well though!

on 2/15/2009 Hahah, most definitely interesting, "video game widow". I hear so much hype about World of Warcraft (including from Ozzy Osbourne) so I may just have to check it out!
