Instructions

    • 1

Start by finding the ideal location for your wireless airport. Usually this will be at some central location within your home. This is where you will place your airport

    • 2
      Place your Cable Modem

Place your cable modem next to your airport and connect the modem to the bnc cable that comes into your home. BNC cable is your typical cable TV cabling. You may need to install a splitter at the cable entrance to your home in order to allow one branch to feed your home with cable TV and the other to be used for your internet. Your cable TV provider should be able to install this for you, if it is not already done.

      Connect Ethernet to Apple Airport

Connect the cable modem to the Apple Airport with a cat5 ethernet cable. The cable modem with likely only have one port for this, while the airport has many. The proper connection on your Apple Airport is the one with the circle above the connection.

    • 4

Turn on your cable modem, then your Airport, and finally your computers.

    • 5
      Open Safari

Open Safari or Firefox and check to see if your computer automatically connects to the internet.

    • 6
      Network Icon

If you don't automatically connect to the internet, open system preferences, and then select the Network icon. Select "location" and then choose an existing location or set up a new one. You can create a new location, by selecting "edit location" and then clicking the + sign to add and name it. You'll then be able to select your new location from the drop-down menu.

    • 7

Pick airport from the list on the left. When you do this, check the box that says, "Show Airport Status on Menu Bar." This will allow quick access to change airport status and to connect to another network, if desired.

    • 8

With the network preferences still open, if you have not already given your airport a name, it will show up as "aaplezcca" or something cryptic like that. You can change that name and add a password if you'd like. You can now close the preferences window.
