This is a wonderful and classic trick play. The flow moves to the right, but cuts back far to the left. Have your flanker ready to move.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Footballs
  • Footballs
  1. Step 1

Set the offense in a split-back formation. Place seven players on the line. Position from the quarterback's left: split end, a space of 5 yards, tackle, guard, center, guard, tackle, tight end. Two running backs stand ready a yard behind the quarterback, one slightly to either side. Finally, a flanker is set 5 yards to the right of the tight end and 1 yard off the line of scrimmage.

  2. Step 2

    Hike the ball.

  3. Step 3

Instruct the quarterback to open to the left and take a few steps back, handing off to the left running back, who breaks right.

  4. Step 4

Have the split end block the corner.

  5. Step 5

Have each tackle block the opposing tackle.

  6. Step 6

Break the guard to keep the left linebacker on the inside.

  7. Step 7

Instruct the center to block the nose guard.

  8. Step 8

Pull the right guard inside to the left, hooking the left end and keeping him inside.

  9. Step 9

Send the tight end racing out past the end, past the linebackers and attempting to contain the free safety. With the initial flow of this play, the free safety should be breaking right to follow the ball.

  10. Step 10

Send the right running back through the line, filling in for the guard and attacking the right linebacker.

  11. Step 11

Have the flanker race left, taking the handoff from the running back as he continues right. The flanker sprints around the mayhem and toward the end zone.

Tips & Warnings
  • Follow these steps assuming your line faces a basic 5-2 defense (five players on the line of scrimmage, two linebackers behind, a corner on either end, and two safeties in back). Adjust the blocking slightly to counter varying defenses.
  • Containment of the left corner and end is essential.
  • Football is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or death. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
