How to Train a Dog to Quit Barking

In this article, you will learn how to make your pooch quit barking eccessivley!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Treats
  • Your Dog! LOL!
  • A leash
  • A collar
  1. Step 1

    Take your dog outside on their leash. Then, go to a place where the dog will start barking. Ask the dog what happened and then go on to step 2.

  2. Step 2

    When the dog starts barking, hold out a treat and say "quiet". When tyou hold out one of the treats, go on to step 3.

  3. Step 3

    The dog will most likely stop to sniff and lick the treat. When they stop barking for three seconds say "Good Fido!" and praise.Then, go right on to step 4.

  4. Step 4

    Every time, add 4 seconds to the wait. Eventually the dog will stop barking completely. That isn't going to happen overnight. Go to step 5.

  5. Step 5

    Be patient and keep alot of treats in your pocket! Try to take your dog on alot more walks to ensure that they will not bark. (or at least they will be less able to bark.

  • Be patient!
  • Remember, they don't speak english!
  • Don't go crazy with frustration the first time you try to teach your dog.
  • Your dog may not learn right away. It may take a little bit.
