Save Money On Energy And Your Electricity Bills

Saving money on energy and your electricity bills are highly important with our economy being the way it is. Who wants to pay high bills on gas and electricity? Here are some tips to save on your gas and electricity bills.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Warm sweaters
  • Weather stripping
  • Ceiling fan
  • Programable thermostat
  • CFL bulbs
  • Common sense
  1. Step 1

Start with turning you ceiling fan on. Switch the direction of the fan and leave it on low. It will help circulate the warm air that rises and send it back down to you to help you feel warmer.

  2. Step 2

Add weather-stripping around the windows and doors to help keep warm air from escaping and cold air from coming in. www.lowes.com is a good place to look for winterizing things.

  3. Step 3

Rearrange your furniture so you are not blocking heating vents. They have plastic shields to put over your vents to help push the warm air into your rooms instead of going straight up the wall. If found them on http://www.acehardware.com/product

  4. Step 4

Install a programmable thermostat. Turning down your thermostat 10-15 degrees for 8 hours a day while at work or away can save up to 15% on heat. This will help save money on your gas and electricity bills. Some people do this at night while they are sleeping and all bundled up.

  5. Step 5

Open your curtains during the day to let the warm sunshine in and close them when it gets dark.

  6. Step 6

Wear a warm sweater in the evening when you turn down your thermostat a few degrees. You can also cover up with a blanket for extra warmth. You can save 1% on your gas and electricity bills for every degree you drop the temperature.

  7. Step 7

Replace burned out light bulbs little by little not to break your budget. Replace them with CFL bulbs (CFL compact fluorescent lights). CFL's use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs. You can find these in almost any store. Dollar Stores have them as well as Lowes or Ace Hardware.

  8. Step 8

Buy a new front loading washing machine if possible. They are so energy efficient. If you can't afford a new washing machine at least wash with cold water. This alone will save on the gas and electricity.
