Got venison? Make it tasty easily. This recipe is for a whole venison loin. It is a fix-it-and-leave-it recipe and requires a crock pot.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • crock pot
  • whole venison loin
  • dry onion soup mix
  • 1.5 cups water
  1. Step 1

If necessary, brine loin overnight in water, white vinegar, and salt. This gets rid of the gamey taste. Brining isn't necessary if the venison is used quickly and it was dressed properly.

  2. Step 2

Put venison in crock pot and cover. Turn on high for about thirty minutes or until the venison begins to change color. This sears the venison and locks in juices.

  3. Step 3

Mix dry onion soup mix with water in a bowl with a wisk.

  4. Step 4

Pour water over and around venison loin.

  5. Step 5

Turn crock pot to low. Cook for eight to ten hours.

  6. Step 6

Loin should pull apart with fork when done. Serve with potatoes (roasted or mashed) and your choice of green vegetable (I prefer beans, peas, or sugar snap peas).

  7. Step 7

Use the leftover juices to make deer gravy for a topping.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you clean the loin well, removing all the little hairs.
  • You can use different soups if you like. I hear mushroom works well.
