How to Get out of a Bad Date
Almost anyone who has been on a date has been on a bad one. You don't want to be rude, and you don't want to be mean, but you do want to get yourself out of it, and quickly. Luckily, there are strategies that will get you out of any dating jam.

Fake a Phone Call
-
1
Find a friend who can call you 20 minutes into your date, or however long you think it will take you to figure out whether the date is going to be a bad one.
-
2
Before going on your date, establish a "code" with your friend for three scenarios, so your friend knows whether to call you again. Tell your friend to be prepared for one of the following: the date is going well and she shouldn't call again; you're not sure how the date is going and she should call again in a half-hour; or the date is going terribly and you need to get out immediately. For example: If the date is going well, say "I can't talk right now." If you're unsure, say, "Can I call you back later?" And if the date is going badly, be prepared with a believable crisis, such as, "Oh, I'm so sorry; no, I can come be with you; just hold on, I'll be there soon." Tell your date you're really sorry, but you really need to go help out your friend.

Go on your date.

4
Proceed with the fake phone call.

If the phone call doesn't work, employ an alternate exit strategy, such as pretending you are ill, or pretending you have to work. If all else fails, run out the fire escape. And if THAT fails too, then tell the truth. It will still beat suffering through a bad date.
