Write A New Year's Message

It is a tradition in the business world to send a New Year's Wish to clients and business associates. Use the following structure to make quick work of writing a New Year's greeting.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • New Year's greeting cards
  • Pen
  1. Step 1

Simply start with the salutation. If it's a close friend or associate the first name will do. If it's your boss or a customer, keep it formal: "Dear Mr.(Mrs.)".

  2. Step 2

The first paragraph will be the New Year's message itself. Keep the message focused on the person you are writing to. You can thank them for something; if they're an employee, acknowledge their hard work and something specific they've accomplished. If it's a client, tell them how much you appreciate their business. Two or three sentences is long enough.

  3. Step 3

Your next paragraph will be a quick New Year's Wish in 2 or 3 sentences. If it's a client, wish them continued success. If it's an employee or your boss, thank them for their support and that you look forward to working with them for another year.

  4. Step 4

Write a one sentence paragraph wishing them a Happy New Year. Example: "Here's wishing you all the best for a Happy, joyous and safe 20xx!"

  5. Step 5

Next is your letter ending. With clients and your boss, keep it formal: "Sincerely, (your name)". If you have a close relationship with the person, you may be informal: "Best wishes, (your name)" or "Kindest regards, (your name)".

Tips & Warnings
  • Following this format makes it easy to write a large number of New Year's greetings.
  • While it's a more positive impression to send a handwritten New Year's Wish, the same format applies to E-mail as well.
  • When in doubt, be formal. Don't risk insulting someone by being too "loose" with your greeting.
  • Mail the New Year's card one week before the actual holiday; it's tacky if someone gets your card AFTER the holiday.
