SEO (search engine optimization) writing jobs are easy to find if you know where to look and how to utilize the Internet as a job hunting tool. SEO (search engine optimization) writing is unique in that key search words are used within articles. SEO keywords are used to draw more traffic to sites via search engines. Most SEO writing jobs are contract-based (freelance work); however, there are full-time SEO writing jobs for web sites and marketing companies who need full-time content writers.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Updated writing resume and cover letter (electronic version)
  • Email address
  • Personal web site or blog
  • Writing samples
  1. Step 1

Update your writing samples and resume (and cover letter) before you research SEO writing jobs. If you aren't familiar with how to write a writing-specific resume, look online for samples and resume writing sites.

  2. Step 2

Sit down at a computer and log onto the Internet. Search for "SEO writing jobs or SEO freelance writing jobs" in a search engine. If you don't find specific results, search for "freelance writing jobs."

  3. Step 3

After you are directed to freelance writing sites, search for the "jobs" section. Look through other writing job sections such as: copywriting, content writing, web writing, article writing and SEO writing/marketing. Search online job sites such as Craigslist (under the "writing/editing" sections or "part-time writing" sections).

  4. Step 4

Review and research each job listing carefully. Listen to your instincts if you feel the writing job ad is too good to be true. Do not send money to ads requesting funds or personal information like a social security number in order to write for them.

  5. Step 5

Read the job description and ad carefully before applying for SEO writing jobs. Proofread your resume, cover letter and writing samples before emailing to the ad's email address. Send your resume, cover letter and writing samples according to the ad's specific criteria. Do not send multiple emails in response to the same job ad.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have published writing samples but you write a blog, submit your blog's URL as your writing sample. It's also easier to include links to your online writing as opposed to attaching documents. If you have a website that showcases your writing, include the link in your cover letter.
  • If an ad asks you to send money or is offering a very small amount of money to write for them, be wary of the ad. Do not send personal information (like social security number or bank account information) in response to a SEO writing ad. Be careful of bidding type freelance writing sites. Pay close attention to wording in SEO writing jobs and make sure you always sign a legitimate contract before you write for a web site or company. It's your right as a freelance writer to request a contract. Sign a contract before you ever write SEO content. There are some unethical online companies that use these ads to dupe writers and steal their writing (and don't pay writers). Use sound judgment and research freelance writing forums for other tips and tricks on how to job hunt for SEO writing jobs.

on 11/24/2009 You mentioned Craigslist, but what websites have you used personally? I like your advice about not sending personal information. Far too many people fall for scams like that.
